Adrian Mariappa won his 46th international cap and helped Jamaica keep a clean sheet as they laboured to an unimpressive 2-0 win over Aruba in the CONCACAF Nations League.

The Hornets defender played the full game as Devon Williams’ 13th-minute opener put the hosts in early control.

However, they had to wait until the 88th minute to add to their tally through Shamar Nicholson after the same player had missed a penalty 11 minutes earlier.

Despite the unconvincing nature of the win, it maintains Jamaica’s 100 per cent record in their group ahead of Wednesday’s second meeting between the two teams in Curacao.

Elsewhere, Pontus Dahlberg was on the right end of a more comfortable scoreline as Sweden Under-21 beat their Icelandic counterparts 5-0 in their UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier.

The hosts were two goals up by the interval and rounded off their comfortable win after the break to leave them in fourth place in Group 1, six points behind leaders Republic of Ireland but with at least one game in hand on all three teams ahead of them.

The young Hornets keeper enjoyed a relatively quiet outing between the posts in shot-stopping terms as Iceland managed just one attempt on target.

Next up for the Swedes is a qualifier in Luxembourg on Tuesday.
