It was an uplifting weekend for South Lakes, as both their men's and women's teams got off the mark for the new season by recording draws last Saturday.

For the men's side, Alec Gaydon and Patrick Eayton-Morris were on target in their 2-2 draw against Horwich in Division Two North of the North West League in what was their first home game of the campaign.

Their goals weren't quite enough to secure all three points, however, as Horwich hit back through Dave Whiteside and Andy Barr to claim a share of the spoils.

South Lakes ladies also drew 2-2 at home to Preston in West Division Three North of the North League in what was also their first fixture of the year at Ulverston Leisure Centre.

Having both got their first points, the two teams will be on the road against Leyland and Chorley this weekend.

In the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League, Windermere ladies' 1st XI kept up their good start to the season with a 3-3 draw at Garstang 2nd XI.

Buoyed in confidence by their thumping opening day win against Rossall, Windermere took the lead early on when Abbey Carroll struck following a short corner with the visitors maintaining their 1-0 advantage into half-time.

That became 2-0 in the early stages of the second half when Raine Wickens took on all of Garstang’s defence and managing to secure a second goal.

The lead was quickly wiped out, however, as two quick goals from Garstang, the second of them deflected, squared things up.

An amazing run from Kitty Brownell through the hosts' defence led to Mere going ahead again, but they couldn't hold on as Garstang levelled the match again in the closing stages, as fatigue began to set in.

Windermere men's 1st XI fell to a second straight defeat as they threw away a two-goal lead in their 3-2 home loss against Didsbury Northern 2nd XI in West Division Two West of the North League.

Mere took control of the game in the first half through goals by Josh Bellis and Adam Whitehead, but Didsbury got themselves back in the game, against the run of play, just before the break.

A strong finish levelled the game for the visitors, who then snatched the win in the closing stages with a drag flick into the top corner to condemn Windermere to an undeserved defeat.

Their men's 2nd XI opened their season with a 4-1 victory against Preston 6th XI in Division Four North North with Jamie Hill, Michael Shields and Felix Perez Brown among their scorers in a match where they fielded six players aged 16 or under.
