Windermere were beaten for the third week in a row, although they managed to claim a losing bonus point at Workington, who ran out 24-17 winners in Cumbria Division One last Saturday.

After being heavily beaten in their previous two matches against Whitehaven and Cockermouth, Mere gave a much better account of themselves on this occasion and should go into Saturday's match against Hawcoat Park at Dawes Meadow with some of their confidence restored.

Millom also fell to their third straight defeat, although they did well to fulfil their fixture in the first place after having to travel to Wigton short of numbers.

In that regard, the scoreline doesn't bear so much importance, but Wigton were not surprisingly comfortable winners, by 43-19, with Millom showing plenty of fighting spirit by scoring three tries.

Like Windermere, they have a local derby to look forward to on Saturday when they welcome Furness to Wilson Park.

Hawcoat Park were given the weekend off after Carlisle Crusaders were unable to raise a team for the fixture, which led to its postponement.

It was one of three games last weekend that were called off due to the visitors not having enough players, with Creighton and Silloth having the same problem for their trips to St Benedicts and Whitehaven, respectively.

Given that we're still at an early stage of the season, that is a worrying development.

Hawcoat Park A were able to fulfil their fixture, but their new-look side couldn't register a point as they were beaten 45-0 at Lostock in what was also their third consecutive loss.

It doesn't get any easier for them on Saturday, as they welcome Rossendale 3rd XV.
