Creighton (29) v Hawcoat Park (38)

A much changed maroon and whites made the journey up the M6 to the outskirts of Carlisle to take on Creighton - and it was a worthwhile trip.

Hawcoat were against the wind in the first half and in the first five minutes the game could not have started any worse.

Trying to move the ball in our own 22 the wind impacted on a pass and as the ball went astray the Creighton centre reacted quickly booted on and won the chase to the ball to touch down the conversion was added 7 - 0.

Ten minutes in it was fly half George Smith who took it upon himself to get Hawcoat level.

Thirty metres out he took a quick tap from a penalty and went on a great side stepping run to beat numerous defenders to touch down. He converted his own try and had certainly brought his kicking boots as he was to go on to not miss a kick all game.

Smith added another before good work by the evergreen Martin Kennedy and Harry Higgins allowed Smith to make a good clean break and pass the ball to supporting centre Chris Burns to score - 7 - 21.

Twenty five minutes into the half Creighton deservedly collected their second try.

Before half time Hawcoat went on to score two further tries. Winger Kaighan got the bonus point-earning fourth try followed by centre Burns who collected his second try.

The second half was a complete contrast.

Forwards and backs alike were playing well and Creighton went on to score three different forms of tries by their young fly half back row and winger in the corner.

The third try made the score 29 - 35 and with at least five minutes left Hawcoat were on the ropes.

With the last play of the match Smith was to calm a few maroon and white nerves both on and off the pitch.

Smith won Man of the Match and White and centre Sayle worked hard through a second half to forget.
