HOMEGROWN talent Jake Carter is the latest player to commit his future to Barrow Raiders.

Stand-off Carter, whose father Darren pulled on the Barrow shirt during three spells at Craven Park, is a graduate of the Furness Raiders under-19s set up, having helped guide the team to the 2018 Association of Colleges National Cup final.

Carter, who stepped up to the professional ranks from amateur club Barrow Island, signed his first pro contract in October last year and has impressed management with his professionalism on and off the field.

Rugby director Andy Gaffney believes Carter, who spent time on loan at Whitehaven last season, can establish himself as one of the leading players at the Craven Park club next season.

"He is a great kid who is really focussed," he said.

"He looks after himself and is a true professional.

"It's up to him now to make a statement next year and he could be one of the star players over the next ten years.

"Paul (Crarey) has a lot of confidence in him."

Gaffney said more announcements are due over the coming days as the Raiders look to bounce back from relegation.

"There are more players to sign up and we will go into the season with a squad of about 24/25 looking to bounce back straight away," he said.

"We need to hit the ground running and get off to a good start."
