I HAVE been busy over the last few weeks trying to put together plans for the club’s future development and I have begun to realise what a massive task it is as a part-time organisation. There are so many areas that I would like to improve, but I am hamstrung by lack of resource.

It is no surprise that the two areas that have seen massive improvement over the last year has been in our commercial and community development departments and these are the two areas where we have appointed full-time staff.

There are probably two other major areas where I see the need for further resource and that is stadium management and media.

Joe Slater, our Stadium Director, and his team do a fantastic job maintaining the ground. At the start of last season, we had plans for improvement and while we have achieved some of those aims. his frustration is that it is a never-ending task just to stand still.

Bradford Bulls appear to have been forced to leave Odsal due to the maintenance costs and it is true that we are getting a level of scrutiny never seen before. We seem to be getting almost weekly visits from council officials or safety groups and the number of findings rise by the week.

We all take health and safety very seriously and we welcome these visits, as we know we must ensure that the ground is a safe place to visit.

Some of the findings are of a minor nature that could be solved by a lick of paint or simply tidying up but nevertheless we need to put action plans in place that demonstrate we know what needs doing and when we are aiming to complete.

Resource is an issue and Joe would welcome additions to his team. Just turn up at the ground any Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Helping the club can be very rewarding.

Also there are opportunities to join our media team. Over the last year, I think we have improved our output immeasurably but this is probably the one area that has no limit.

It is vitally important that we keep engaging with our fans. In this day and age, virtually everyone has their phone to hand and every spare moment seems to be checking social media, craving new information and stories.

It is important that we still use traditional media like newspapers and radio to get our messages across but our website and social media should be our focus. Every single department feeds in to media.

Team news, new signings, injury news, coach and player interviews, match previews and match reaction all come from our team to feed media. Then we have our sponsorship deals, community work, events, selling of tickets and merchandise, our TV channel, our website management, our lottery advertising, messages from the RFL and, importantly, our vision.

I desperately want to take this club forward but I need resource. I’m sure there are fans out there that can help to grow our profile, there are media roles available.
