Furness need to get over the disappointment of last week’s home defeat against Barrow rivals Hawcoat Park as this afternoon’s opponents St Benedicts are a different kettle of fish all together.

Bennies won 22-19 away at Wigton last Saturday so they could be the team to beat this year in Cumbria Division One.

However, with the likes of Joe and Will Mallinson and Corne Els in the squad, Furness are capable of upsetting a team or two going forward.

The front three of Dillon Taputu, Ben Hughes and Paul Dean are a real handful on their day and will need good support from the second row, where Mike Curran will likely join Els.

Hopefully the Humphry brothers, Rhys and Iestyn, will still be home before there trip back to university to support from full back and centre.

Dave Findlayson will need to be top notch at fly-half with support from his pack as the pacey Benedicts back row look to close him down.

The superb 20-13 home win last week against last season’s undefeated side Silloth was massive for Windermere and one they must surely go forward from, as they travel to Whitehaven.

With a big strong pack and pacey backs, Windermere appear to be a team to watch.

Jonny Benson still leads the team as skipper, but with the likes of Liam Mckinnon and his partner in crime Bertie Hodgson at scrum-half and fly-half, respectively, they have real lift from the off.

New prop Tyrone Alderson seems like a real find with his soft hands in the off-load and with backs such as Bobby Davis on hand, anything can happen.

Wing man Moses Dawson is still always able to finish off the moves instigated by the backs, so with Jamie Hardman’s strong running alongside Phil Murphy, the link play amongst the whole team looks to be key in Mere’s all-round play.
