Barrow boxer Mike McGoldrick has got the longer fight he was looking for coming up tonight, but he is in two minds as to whether he wants his contest against Latvia's Jevgenijs Andrejevs to go the distance.

McGoldrick is looking to make it five wins out of five professional fights when he steps into the ring at the University of Bolton Stadium for what is his first six-round bout.

The 34-year-old light heavyweight has looked to have had plenty left in the tank at the end of his previous four victories, which all came via points after four rounds.

McGoldrick is aware that he needs a knockout to catch people's attention, but he also wants to show that he has the stamina to get through six rounds, or even beyond.

McGoldrick said: "I'm looking forward to seeing what I feel like after six rounds, but it's bit hard for me at the minute I feel I need to get a knockout to keep people interested.

"But at the same time, I want to get six rounds in for my own benefit, so it's a tough one.

"I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't, really. I've just got to go out there and do my best."

McGoldrick will be up against a veteran journeyman in 38-year-old Andrejevs, who is fighting in his 121st professional bout is without a win in almost four years.

When asked what he knows about his opponent, McGoldrick said: "I've seen him fight Tommy Fury, the fella who was on Love Island. I had a look at that, but I wasn't too bothered about who I was facing.

"For me, it's just another person that's in the way of my goal and it's another opponent who I've got to beat before I can get to challenging for titles."

McGoldrick was set to be one of two Barrovians on the card at Bolton tonight, only for a fractured wrist to unfortunately rule out the undefeated Ross Cooksey.

Nonetheless, there will still be a healthy travelling contingent from 'Goldie's' hometown to cheer him on for what is his second fight in three months.

"There is always good support from Barrow - there are quite a few lads from the town doing different types of fighting so there's a good deal of support," McGoldrick said.

"Barrow is quite a good fighting town and Ross and Liam [Conroy] unfortunately aren't on this card, so I'm sort of carrying the weight by myself and hopefully I can put on a good performance."
