The first games of the Lakeland Leisure-sponsored Barrow Friday League took place last week, with last year’s snooker winners British Legion A setting off strongly by taking all three points against the Barrow Football Supporters. Captain.

John Tyerman got them off and running with a good 58-23 win over Tony Mason, including a 20 break, backed up with wins for Dave Simpson over Adam Cook and Billy Burns getting the better of Steve Redpath.

Navy Club took two points away at Roose Cons, Dave Wilkie taking the top man’s game in a low-scoring event by winning 37-25 against Nick Wilkes.

Dave Kewley levelled matters with a tight 56-40 win against Joe O’leary before Andy Charnley finishing the night off with another tight game against Lee Majors, which he took with a 57-41 scoreline.

British Legion Club whitewashed Vickerstown Cricket Club, with Ray Gardner getting their first point of the night with a straightforward 53-13 win over Peter Scott.

Jack Arnold took the second, keeping George Scott to low figures in winning 48-11 before Mike Smith won the final game of the night in a very tight frame against Jimmy Allen 50-44 off the final black.

Last year's billiards winners the British Legion took only one point at home to Vickerstown CC. Allan Edmondson, last year’s aggregate winner, played Vickerstown captain Gareth Willis and won 100-48 before Peter Scott had a good 100-48 win over Alf Carruthers to level the scores.

David Holmes, with the help of a 20 break, then came back from a 40-point deficit to take the third frame 100-85 against Kevin Quinn.

British Legion A top the table after a 3-0 win over the Barrow Football Supporters Club. The first game produced a break of 41 for the Legion A’s top man, as opponent Mason doubled up at both table games also had a 20 break but lost 100-58.

Supporting were Paul Fieldhouse beating Jimmy Wilson 100-84 and Steve Hetherington held up against Denis Plant to win 100-87.
