Beth Lindsay, Sam Norman and Jodie Morley each scored twice as Barrow Island Ladies cemented second place in the Women's Championship with an impressive 44-12 win against Huddersfield Giants at Ostley Bank.

Barrow had recorded victories at home to Stanningley and away at Leigh in the build-up to what was a key clash against the Giants, who went into the game third in the table.

Some solid forward play allowed the host to control the early proceedings and they opened the scoring through a converted try from Lindsay, although this was soon cancelled out when a ricochet led to Huddersfield levelling the scores.

Barrow then dominated the remainder of the first half, however, and they regained the lead when quick thinking from Jodie Litherland and Emily Stirzaker led to Norman scoring in the corner.

The lead was then extended to 16-6, as Morley, Jess Alexander and Louise Clancy all made powerful runs before the former ran in for a fine try that Litherland converted.

Two more Barrow scores followed before half-time as Michelle Larkin went over in the corner on her return from injury before Leah Cottier's converted try made the score 26-6 at the break.

Huddersfield scored the first try of the second half, but normal service was soon resumed as Lindsay claimed her second before some great play from Litherland found space for Norman to sprint into the corner.

The brilliant play from Barrow continued, with everybody involved, and as the match moved into its final ten minutes, Morley rounded off an outstanding display with her second try.

Barrow's final match of the season, against Oulton Raidettes will be played at Craven Park, home of Barrow Raiders, on Sunday, September 15, with the game kicking off at 2pm.

It will be preceded by a girls mini tournament, which gets under way at 12:30pm, ahead of Barrow looking to round off their campaign in style.
