Roose Pioneers under-15s had a spectacular start to the Play-off Series in the North West Counties Youth League as they smashed Leyland Warriors 60-1 on their own patch last Sunday.

It didn't take long for Pioneers to get up and running again, as Ethan Cohen ran in their opening try after a great hit up by Rushton and a second soon followed when Shepperd went in at the corner.

Young's unconverted score then put Roose 14-0 ahead and they soon added to their lead again with speedy centre Morgan cashing in off Bower's off-load.

Ellis Archer then made the score 24-0 at half-time with a try he converted himself before Cohen put to put any chance of a comeback with his second just after break.

Cohen then completed his hat-trick, bowling Leyland defenders over in doing so, and he then turned provided for Roberts, who soon had his second after another excellent set up from Rushton.

Archer then claimed his second after after dummying his way through, with the Pioneers running in their final score through Roberts completing his hat-trick on what was his debut before Leyland's scrum-half kicked a late drop goal to deny Roose a clean sheet.

In Division Two of the under-16 level, Ulverston, who have played several games during what was meant to be a summer break, recorded an excellent 24-4 win at Westhoughton Lions.

The Barrow & District Youth League also swung back into action and Roose Pioneers went to the top of the under-14 league on points difference by comfortably defeating Askam 38-0 to effectively end their title hopes.
