Barrow's Liam Livingstone was the first pick for South African franchise Cape Town Blitz in the opening round of the player draft for this year's Mzansi Super League.

It will be Livingstone's third spell of playing T20 cricket abroad this year, after previously playing for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League during the winter and spring.

The Mzansi Super League is heading towards its second season, which runs from November until December with six teams in contention.

The Blitz were runners-up in the inaugural campaign, as the Newlands outfit lost to the Jozi Stars in the final.

Amongst Livingstone's teammates will be Pakistan international Wahab Riaz, who is their overseas marquee player, while South Africans Quinton de Kock, Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander are also prominent members of their squad.

Currently focused on domestic matters, Livingstone will be looking to help Lancashire to reach Finals Day of the Vitality Blast for the second year in a row when they host Essex at Chester-le-Street tonight.
