A TOUGH Bank Holiday weekend for Barrow Cricket Club was rounded off by a disappointing 84-run home defeat against Leyland in the Northern Premier League on Monday.

Following their nine-wicket thumping at Blackpool the previous Saturday, Barrow won the toss and chose to field, but were made to toil by Leyland opener Henry Thompson.

He struck a superb 72 off 93 balls as wickets fell at the other end, with the visitors' next best score coming from Kurtis Watson, who made 28.

Leyland eventually posted 186-6 from their 50 overs, with Gary Collins the pick of Barrow's bowlers, as he took 3-52.

The hosts' Justin Pringle did well from opener in making 49, but he wasn't backed up by his teammates as Barrow were bowled out for just 102 in reply in the 38th over.

Two men shared the wickets for Leyland, as Saif Badar took a brilliant 5-10 and Karl Cross 5-24.
