Over 50 young gymnasts had a roaring time, when they took part in Furness Gymnastics Club’s annual summer camp. The week-long activities saw children of all abilities explore the club’s excellent facilities.

The camp welcomed non-members and members to the Hartington Street-based club, introducing the fundamentals to beginners, as well as increasing the skill sets of the more advanced gymnasts.

The camp was themed around The Lion King, which accumulated in a display choreographed by coach Gemma Robinson, to one of the songs from the film. The camp was led by a team of qualified coaches, who also turned their hands to some animal-related face painting.

The camp included dance, games, craft activities and rhythmic ribbon work, alongside all the traditional pieces, such as beam, bars, floor, vault and trampette.

Camp co-ordinator Lindsey Usher said: “It was wonderful to open our doors and welcome non-members to our club for the holidays, it was a real joy to see the girls learning new skills and having fun at the same time.

“I especially loved the girls den building with our foam block pit, and the dances were performed beautifully.”

Children as young as five took part in the camp, and certificates of achievement where presented to every gymnast, as well as some special award medals, which were handed out at the end of each display.

The medals recognised selected gymnasts for their hard work, smiles, dancing, improvement and also to those who had been great role models to other children during their camp.
