Despite Dineth Thimodya leading an improved batting display, Barrow were thrashed by nine wickets at Blackpool in the Northern Premier League last Saturday.

Barrow won the toss and chose to bat and made a good start with openers Justin Pringle (34) and Toby Mowat (45) giving them a solid base with an first-wicket stand worth 88.

Thimodya took over with 75 off 98 balls, but once captain Glenn Kermode fell with the visitors 124-2, the wheels began to fall off as Barrow were bowled out for 192, with the rest of the order each failing to reach double-figures.

Matthew Siddall took 4-52 for Blackpool and Matthew Grindley 3-25 before a familiar face came back to haunt Barrow, as Sam Dutton, who left the Ernest Pass side during the winter, crashed an unbeaten 105 off just 87 balls.

His knock allowed the hosts to chase down their target with 19 overs to spare, while Barrow’s 2nd XI were defeated by five wickets at Egremont 2nd XI.
