Furness' title hopes in the Cumbria Cricket League suffered what may be a terminal blow last Saturday as they were defeated by six wickets on their own patch by leaders Carlisle.

The match at Furness Park had the look of a title decider and thanks to an excellent all-round performance from Mike Slack, it is Carlisle who now look almost certain to finish on top for the first time since 1982.

Furness were put in to bat and were soon reduced to 24-3, with Wyll Stanway left to recover their innings, but once he fell for 36 it soon folded as they were bowled out for just 93, with Slack taking 4-30 for the visitors.

Slack then made 25 from opener before being trapped lbw by Brett Pelser, who was Furness' replacement overseas player for the departed Sachith Pathirana and showed plenty of defiance in claiming 3-25.

However, the hosts' total was never one they were going to defend and 39 not out from captain Marc Brown helped Carlisle to secure victory in the 39th over and move 15 points clear with only three games remaining.

A century from Sri Lankan overseas Sameera Sadamal helped Millom to a thumping 156-run away victory at Workington.

The hosts were made to regret choosing to field as 50 from opener Danny Fallows was bettered by an outstanding 104 off 121 balls from Sadamal, which helped Millom post 205-7 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Workington fell to a magnificent spell of bowling by Millom skipper Robbie Wilson who took a sensational 8-23 from 13 overs to have the home side 49 all out.

Lindal Moor were victims of a century from Supeshala Jayathilake as they fell 32 runs short in their run chase against Cleator at Pennington Lane.

Jayathilake struck 110 as part of Cleator's 225-7, as Bradley Stephens took 4-70 for Lindal, who were then bowled out for 193 in reply, despite 70 from Dean Williams, with Darren Clark claiming 5-44.

Dalton lost at Cockermouth by 52 runs after they were bowled out for 122 (Lasith Lakshan top-scoring with 41), in reply to the hosts' 176-4, which included half-centuries for Matthew Sempill (54) and Alex Grainger (64).

Elsewhere, Wigton chased down 87 to beat Egremont by five wickets while Whitehaven defeated Keswick by the same margin after Habib Baloch had taken 5-22 in the visitors' 88 all out.
