Barrow collapsed to yet another defeat in the Northern Premier League as they lost at Fulwood & Broughton by 51 runs last Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and put Fulwood in to bat and their bowlers at last played their part as they restricted the hosts throughout their innings.

Matthew Smith held things together from number three with a well-made 62, but the star of the show was Barrow overseas Dineth Thimodya, who took a magnificent 7-46 to bowl Fulwood out for 160 and seemingly give his team a chance of victory.

Unfortunately, their batsmen proceeded to fall in a heap, with the exception of 52 from Toby Mowat and 32 from captain Daryl Wearing, as Barrow were all out for 109 by the end of the 30th over.

Former England and Lancashire spinner Simon Kerrigan was their chief tormentor as he took 5-27 while Jon Fenton chipped in with 3-40.

Barrow’s 2nd XI fared even worse in Division Two of the Cumbria Cricket League, as they were skittled for 27 by Millom 2nd XI, for whom Rhys Evans claimed 5-6 to defend his side’s 132-8.

Whitehaven 2nd XI sealed promotion to Division One by defeating Cleator 2nd XI by three wickets as 29 not out from captain Jason Spires helped them just about chase down the visitors’ 110 all out.

Cleator then bounced back by defeating Ulverston 2nd XI by two wickets on Sunday.
