Sri Lankan professional Sachith Pathirana gave another superb all-round performance as Furness retained the Higson Cup with a 41-run victory over Keswick at Haverigg last Sunday.

In what was a rain-affected final, Pathirana hammered 83 as Furness posted 195-8 from their 45 overs before the weather reduced Keswick's run chase to 25 overs.

The DLS method adjusted their target to 137, but they were ultimately skittled for just 95 as Pathirana ran through their batting order with a five-wicket haul.

The Higson Cup is the Rams' second trophy of the season, having also won the South Cumbria T20 Cup at Poolside last month.

It was the perfect way to bounce back from their disappointing 91-run defeat at Workington that knocked them off the top of the Premier Division of the Cumbria Cricket League.

Furness won the toss and chose to bat and their opening pairing of Wyll Stanway and Nathan Waterston got them off to a good start, putting on 67 between them for the first wicket.

The partnership, which was interrupted by a lengthy rain delay, was broken when Waterston (21) was bowled by McGown and this triggered a mini collapse as Lewis Gribbin (1) and Stanway (38) soon followed him back to the pavilion.

This brought Pathirana to the crease and how his presence was needed as he put Furness' innings back on track with a brilliant 83 off just 63 balls, with his knock including four fours and four sixes, before he was eventually run out.

Wickets tumbled around him, as Scott McGown and James Hindmarch both claimed two victims, but his efforts has set a difficult target for Keswick.

They were put on the backfoot early as captain Will Atkinson (13) and Ruairdh Barker (5) were removed early and Pathirana began to torment their batsmen when he dismissed Arran Davies for 21.

Davies ended up being his side's top scorer, as Keswick went on to monumentally collapse from 72-3, starting with Geeth Kumara (18) becoming Pathirana's second victim.

Hindmarch (11), Stephen Moss (1) and McGown (8) also perished at the hands of Furness' man of the moment as he finished with brilliant figures of 5-19 off seven overs.

Mark Daly also made a big contribution with the ball in taking 3-31 and it was he who sealed victory for the Rams when Joe Grisdale (2) was stumped.
