Barrow Raiders’ forward stocks will continue to be depleted when they welcome York City Knights to begin the final push in their Championship survival bid on Sunday.

The Raiders have suffered some dreadful luck with injuries all season and they lost Jarrad Stack to injury during their last match against Swinton Lions two weeks ago, which added to the absences of Jono Smith, Danny Morrow and Dan Toal.

The fact that it looks like only Toal will return to face the Knights only adds to the problems caused by Barrow having to field an all new half-back pairing due to Lewis Charnock’s fractured jaw and Jamie Dallimore’s suspension.

Head coach Paul Crarey said: "I think there's only Danny Toal that could probably make himself available, but he's got a concussion test to come through.

"Danny Morrow wasn't able to train on Tuesday and Jono Smith hasn't trained for a few weeks now with a calf tear and again we're going to be lacking in that department.

"But I thought Ryan Duffy did really well in coming back and I thought the whole pack did really well at Swinton.

"We just tried to push the ball too much and tried to score off every play and didn't complete sets, which caused us massive trouble and we'll have to learn our lesson from that."

Half-back Ben White will make his first start at Craven Park against York, after impressing as an interchange against Swinton, where his footwork led to Luke Cresswell's try before his high kick led to the wrongly disallowed score for Tee Ritson.

Crarey said: "It takes a long time for a pivot to settle in, but his tackling in the last few games has been outstanding - I think he's only missed one tackle in three games.

"The reason why we brought him in is because he's played at a Championship level and he's a solid defender. You've got to defend your edges well to win games and we've got young Ryan [Johnston] and Jake [Carter] in that department who've got to fix themselves up a little bit."
