Ann Fearne and Graham Rigg came out on top in the Askam & Ireleth Over-60s Mixed Pairs competition last Friday.

The competition was well supported, with some players travelling from as far away as Kendal, Levens Village and Coniston.

The attractions of the tournament included the friendly atmosphere, a wonderful playing surface and the gorgeous food supplied by the Askam lady members.

The very worthy winners were Fearne and Rigg, who in a very entertaining final defeated Kath Lodge and Colin Taylor 21-16 to take the trophy.

The losing semi- finalists were the parirings of Maureen Ratcliffe and Ken Judge, and Glynis McDonald and Alan Mason.

Thelma McBratney and Mike Askew, Jackie and Colin Haworth, Edena Casson and Ken Knowles, Joyce Athersmith and Jeff Hinde all reached the quarter finals but could go no further.

The club would like to thank all the players for their support and Tony Brown Aggregates for the generous sponsorship.

The Jack Marklew Memorial Open Singles bowls competition, sponsored by Handmark Engineering, is being played on the two greens at Hawcoat Park on Sunday, August 11.
