The heat wave gave way to a deluge last Saturday, which caused havoc with the fixtures in the Cumbria Cricket League, with none of the matches in Division One being played to a finish.

Just 11 overs were possible in the match between Hawcoat Park and Vickerstown, although that was still enough time for the visitors' top order to crumble in conditions suited for bowling.

Hawcoat captain Tom Stanwix dismissed Vickerstown opener Sam Dixon for a duck and bowled Isaac Whitewall (6), as the bottom team in the division were reduced to 26-3 by the time the rain set in.

The weather was of particular frustration for second-placed Haverigg as they were all set to bowl Seascale out for a very small total after the bowling duo of Tomas Hawdon and Lahiru Jayakody ran riot.

None of the home side's batsmen reached double figures as Seascale collapsed to 33-9 in 29 overs, with Hawdon ripping through the home side's line-up by taking 5-12, while Jayakody claimed 4-20. Both bowled unbroken spells.

However, just when Haverigg thought they would bouncing back from their defeat at Kirkby in the best way possible, the weather denied them, forcing them to settle for four points.

Fresh from their best result of the season, Kirkby welcomed Ulverston to the Community Centre and were put in to bat and they soon lost opener Alistair Bradley for just five when he was bowled by Shivan Perera.

The hosts were 19-1 with nine overs bowled, but that was all that was possible.

Strugglers Lindal Moor 2nd XI were giving a good account of themselves at Workington 2nd XI, with them 103-2 after 22 overs.

Opener Sam Beckman laid the platform with an unbeaten 37 and Max Winskill upped the pace with 32 batting from number three, but Lindal were prevented from pressing on the promising start to their innings.

Furness 2nd XI's match against Cockermouth 2nd XI never got under way because of the rain in Barrow, although Furness did have a point deducted by the League for submitting the 'result' late.

Because of that, Furness' lead over Haverigg at the top of the table is down to five points, with Hawcoat Park still not out of the equation, as they lie third, eight points behind the leaders.

Vickerstown are still five points adrift of Lindal Moor 2nd XI, while Workington's seconds are still looking over their shoulders in the battle to avoid relegation to Division Two.

Haverigg are expected to pick up a win against Vickerstown at Poolside on Saturday, while Furness welcome Hawcoat Park
