Haverigg 2nd XI were defeated in what was a rain-affected Vigodny Cup final last Sunday, as Cleator 2nd XI claimed the trophy with a 53-run victory, via DLS, at Whitehaven.
Haverigg won the toss and chose to field and this decision paid off initially, as Kevin Rogan ran through Cleator’s top order by dismissing their captain Steven Lee (11), Gary Hall and Ian Clark (both 9).
When Owen Bell followed for just eight, Cleator were 41-4, but 44 from David Bell and 36 from David Glover allowed them to recover their innings, as they posted 171-7 from their 40 overs, with Rogan finishing with figures of 3-25.
Haverigg then struggled in their reply as they were reduced to 62-6 by the time the rain set in, as Glover and Owen Bell both took two wickets.
The players never re-emerged from the changing rooms and with Haverigg 53 runs behind the DLS par score, Cleator took the victory and the cup.
