Salthouse Bowling Club staged their Over-60s Open Pairs Competition last Sunday, which resulted in Colin Taylor and Billy Thompson beating Chris Lloyd and Joe Wardman 21-16 in the final.

The competition, sponsored by Sears Heating & Plumbing attracted a full entry of 32 pairs, who competed for a first prize of £140.

Taylor and Thompson were deserved winners after bowling consistently well all day. They defeated John Mason and Alan Newsham 21-11, Bob Parkinson and Kenny Knowles 21-12 then Tommy Benson and Martin Carpenter 21-14 to reach the semi-finals.

Their last four opponents were Ken Howarth and John Taylor, who gave the winners their hardest game of the day as they edged home 21-19 after leading 16-8 at one stage.

Lloyd and Wardman also had a comfortable route to the semi-finals beating Stella Backley and Ann Fearn 21-11, Glenis McDonald and Alan Mason 21-12 before knocking out Marian and Ron Woods 21-10.

Last years winners, Mike Fieldhouse and Alan Edwards, were formidable opponents for the Salthouse pair and led 19-18 from 18-10 adrift before the game also finished like the other semi final in a 21-19 scoreline.

In the final, Wardman & Lloyd led 11-7 and 16-15 when Taylor and Thompson did a ‘Dusty Bin’ 3-2-1 to take the trophy.

Salthouse Bowling Club would like to thank Sears Heating & Plumbing for their excellent sponsorship of the competition.
