Hawcoat Park under-13 Dynamos didn't let playing in the age group above faze them, as they enjoyed a superb year in a variety of competitions.

The Dynamos, who play in the Barrow & District Under14 League, played some fantastic football against stronger bigger teams, with their only defeat's in the league coming against champions Vickerstown and a strong Holker Old Boys Red. Their performances earned them a third-place finish.

With such a positive season behind them, Hawcoat went into the summer tournaments full of belief. Their first big test was at the Football League One club Fleetwood Town at their training headquarters at Pool Farm.

In Hawcoat's group were the hosts, Poulton Utd, Lytham St Anne and a very good team from Manchester. Hawcoat got off to a great start beating Lytham and ended up winning three games and drawing the remaining one to go into the 'Champions League' stage, in which they had to face four very good group winner.

They got off to a great start again beating a team from Bolton and going onto to win another game and drawing one against a very good team from Yorkshire.

It all came down to the last game against North Field, a team who play in the Liverpool league and had faced Park in seven-a-side tournament earlier in the year.

Within three minutes, Hawcoat were ahead and before the end of the first half were 3-0 up against a team who had won everything in their area this year.

Hawcoat did not let up and played with intensity and added another goal to win the tournament in real style.

The team then travelled to St Georges Park, where the England national team have their training headquarters at Burton on Trent, for a tournament made up from teams from all over England.

In Hawcoat's group were teams from Liverpool, Kent, Cheshire and London. In the group stages, it was a great team effort but Luke Ellis played some great football in his fighting spirit to get the team over the line. Hawcoat eventually finished top of the group and went into the semi finals where they played Dret FC from Leicester.

The game ended goalless and went to penalties, where Ben Ridgway and Lewis Ballantyne scored and the Hawcoat goalkeeper, Charlie McGlown saved two of the Dref spot kicks to take Hawcoat into the final.

After a long day and the clock touching 8pm, the final between Hawcoat and London team Kentish FC, got underway. It was another very tense game, with the midfield of Ellis and Joe Rigby again working hard against a very well organised team.

At the end, the two teams could not be separated and it went to the dreaded penalty shootout again. Hawcoat players, Adam Downward, Jacob Ellis and Lewis Ballantyne all stepped up and scored and it was down to the last Kentish Town player.

McGlown guessed the right way to make the save and ensure Hawcoat Dynamos had won another prestigious competition in a summer to remember.
