It wasn't to be for Ulverston under-16s in the final of the North West Counties Plate last Sunday, as they were narrowly defeated 24-22 by Wigan St Judes.

It's been a stop-start campaign for the boys from Dragley Beck, with fixtures frequently being postponed in their league, but their run in the plate has been a real highlight of their campaign.

In the end, they fell just short against a team who have done well in the division below in the North West Counties Youth League, although they will have the chance to bounce back, as they still have a couple of league games left before the summer break.

Roose Pioneers under-15s, whose title was confirmed the previous week, finished their league campaign with a 100 per cent record after being awarded an away walkover after bottom team Haydock Warriors couldn't raise a side.

There was just one fixture in the Barrow & District Youth League, which now goes into hibernation until the beginning of September and it saw Barrow Island move into second place in the under-12 table after they defeated Walney Central 26-8 at Rating Lane.

In the West Cumbria League, Millom under-16s continue to do well as they defeated second-placed Wath Brow Hornets 28-26 to move within two points of their opponents in the table having played a game more. They now welcome Kells on Sunday.

Dalton are rooted to the bottom of that division and were forced to concede to leaders Hensingham after yet again being unable to put a team together.
