In Division Two of last week’s Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ League, the fixtures pitted second against third as Walney Park A played host to West Mount.

With each having played 17 games, it was the Park team that held sway with a five-point lead. This, however, was eroded away with West Mount winning 8-3 to leave both sides level on points. Walney Park’s better aggregate sees them cling on to second place.

West Mount’s top four of Alan Haines, Barry Morrow, Mike Pritchard and Ken Robinson all won with Billy Dodding and Ken Hackett responding for the Park team.

Meanwhile West Mount A were making it a successful day for the club when beating West Shore A 7-3. Ron Wilson (21-6) lead the way with support from Pete Crosthwaite and Kevin Quinn.

Second-bottom Hawcoat Park C moved to within a points of Walney Park B after defeating them 6-4. This was in no small way down to Tommy Fereday and John Moore, who both won 21-4.

Bottom side Salthouse A are still looking for their maiden win of the season as they slipped to a 9-2 loss at home to Co-op SC B. Their wins came from Ron Burley and Mike Calvert, while Alec Thompson and George Ackred picked up single-figure wins for the Co-op.

Another side to suffer a 9-2 home loss was Dalton CC A, at the hands of North Scale. The standout performance was Geoff Sharp’s 21-7 win for the hosts.

King Alfred A and Hawcoat Park B shared the games four each with the Club side picking up the three aggregate points due to Norman Parker and Mike Kittley both winning 21-9 while John Ellis won 21-7 for the Alfred.

In Division One, Walney Park became the fourth team to visit Hawcoat Park and depart empty-handed as they lost 10-0 to the runaway leaders. Among the winners were Bob Stewart (21-4), Barry Christian (21-6) and David Hird (21-8).

Co-op SC remain in second place following their 9-2 win at Roose. Kenny Judge (21-7) along with support from Ian Sim and Peter McDonald were among the winners.

However the Co-op’s A team slipped to an 8-3 home defeat to Salthouse, leaving them second-from-bottom. Salthouse had three single figure winners in Martin Carpenter (21-2), John Taylor (21-5) and Joe Wardman (21-6).

Dalton CC gave their prospects a boost in winning 9-2 at bottom side Barrow Island A, enabling them to still hover above the drop zone, the leading win being Brian Winders (21-9).

West Shore had a comfortable 8-2 over Hawcoat Park A with Charlie West winning 21-8. Another side to win 8-2 were Askam who beat Barrow Island and in doing so had four single-figure winners in Derek Buck, Stuart Currie, Ted Tyson and Richard Wearing.
