West Shore had their best result of the season in the Furness and District Bowling League (sponsored by John Sharples Letting Agent) as they visited third-placed Salthouse A.

They will have been both delighted and shocked to have returned with a 14-1 victory, a result that saw them draw level with Roose at the top of the table.

Roger Holmes and Dougie Day were both in outstanding form for the Shore, winning to single figures while young Jack Last saved the Salthouse from a whitewash with his 21-16 win.

Kirkby A continue to both impress and outscore their first team. They have now moved into third place in the table after an excellent 13-1 win at home to Roose A, Roy Bainbridge and Dave Turnough leading the way with 21-5 victories, backed up by Graham Preston’s 21-8 win.

Kirkby’s first team also played at home the night before as they entertained a Police A team who seem to be getting their act together.

However, on a tricky green the home team managed to take the game 9-5. Top man Peter Tyson rolled back the years as he was unstoppable in his 21-8 win with Don Marshall (21-9) not being far behind.

Mike Simpson came back from his holiday refreshed and was the Coppers’ best winner of the night, winning 21-13, a score matched by Stan Fleet who has returned to the game after battling and beating the Big C. It is truly great to have Stan back in action.

Co-op A are a team who seem to struggle for consistency but when they are good they are very good, as they defeated Walney Park A 12-2 on their Dane Ave green. John Crosthwaite would have been cracking open a can after his 21-6 victory.

Roose had one of their closest games of the season as Askam A visited them and will be happy to have taken home five wins from the league leaders. Askam’s top man Derek Porter was awesome as he won 21-7, a score matched by Ron Nicholson for Roose, who also had good single-figure wins from Chris Corkill, Ron Rhodes and Dave Staunton.

Barrow Island won 9-5 at home to Dalton CC A with the top half of the sheet doing the damage as six of their top seven won. Joe O’Leary at the top ran out an impressive 21-8 victor with bottom man Dave Gibbons almost matching him 21-8.

King Alfred B ventured across the bridge to play Hawcoat Park B and would have been delighted with the 10-5 winning scoreline. In a match where many of the games went to the wire it was King Alfred’s Matthew Mall that stole the show with his 21-9 win at top man, Ces Turnbull backing him up with his own 21-12 victory.
