Cumbria Cricket League Division One leaders Furness 2nd XI racked up a huge 346-9 with teenage openers Wyll Stanway and Joe Amison contributing 245 of their runs.

Stanway, who is brother of England Women’s football star Georgia, led the way with a fine 127 whilst 15-year-old Amison backed him up with an excellent 118, as they piled up an opening partnership of 232.

Ulverston’s Ben Atkinson replied with 57 not out but he ran out of partners as his side ended up falling 125 runs short with a still creditable 221-8.

Haverigg kept up their promotion challenge with a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Workington 2nd XI. Workington were put in to bat first and they were all out in the 31st over after only making 96.

Professional Lahiru Jayakody returned figures of 4-23. Haverigg then knocked it off within 21 overs losing only one wicket, with Jayakody making an unbeaten 50.

Elsewhere in the division, Vickerstown fell to a seven-wicket defeat at Kirkby, with Mark Etchells collecting five wickets for the hosts, and Hawcoat Park recorded a 31-run win over Seascale.

Hawcoat were bowled out for 175 in the 46th over, but Seascale didn’t bat with any confidence and they were all out for 144 in the 35th over.

Lindal Moor 2nd XI never threatened away at Cockermouth 2nd XI as they were all out in the 31st over after only making 95. Cockermouth knocked it off within 27 overs to record a seven-wicket win.

Four games took place in Division Two, with the one between Whitehaven 2nd XI and Barrow 2nd XI being the best of the bunch. Whitehaven posted 295-5 before Barrow collapsed to 55 all out to fall to a 140-run defeat.

Haverigg 2nd XI managed to chase 147 to beat Cleator 2nd XI with five wickets in hand, whilst neighbours Millom 2nd XI couldn’t produce the same as they fell to a four-wicket defeat to Ulverston 2nd XI.

Dalton 2nd XI also fell to defeat by 81 runs against Egremont 2nd XI as Ben Gilmour put in a man of the match display with bat and ball.
