Askam crashed to a 52-8 defeat and changed places with Shaw Cross Sharks to go bottom of Division Two of the National Conference League.

The Cross gained only their third win of the campaign and put last week’s 62-0 defeat at West Bowling behind them.

It was a tight first half with the home side only two points ahead at 10-8 at half-time, but they gained the upper hand in the second half. Grady Slater crossed for a consolation try for the Villagers, with Zac Steel adding two goals.

Walney Central came out second best in the North West Men’s League Premier Division clash with Shevington Sharks, losing 12-42 at Central Drive.

Mike Whitehead and Dave Nicholson crossed for tries for the Cents, with Nicholson adding two goals.

In Division three Roose Pioneers went down 34-30 at league leaders Thatto Heath Crusaders B.

Mike Backhouse claimed a brace of tries for the Pioneers, while the others came via Rory Sayle, Dai Herendiaz, Harrison O’Brien and Alex Brown with Steve Perry adding three conversions.

There was also no joy for Ulverston in Division One, as they went down 19-12 at Folly Lane. Marc Storey grabbed a pair of tries with Connor Saunders adding both conversions.

In the Barrow and District League, Barrow Island A took the points with a 24-20 win against Millom A at Devonshire Road. Walney conceded the points to Dalton due to a lack of players.

Ged Harris, a star half-back for St Marys under-19s back in the 60s, has passed away at the age of 78. He formed a good half-back pairing with Alf Ireland. A service takes place at the Crematorium tomorrow at 10:45am.
