The cricket team from Pennington C of E School in Ulverston were the pride of Cumbria last Friday as they came out on top in the Year 6 County Kwik Cricket finals.

Pennington were one of schools from the area who travelled to Keswick Cricket Club, along with Barrow's Holy Family and Millom's Black Combe.

There were teams from all over the county taking part, with Carlisle represented by Stanwix and Great Corby and the competition was made up from North Lakes (Penrith), Bridekirk Dovenby (Cockermouth), Beckstone (Workington), Long Marton, Milnthorpe and Beckermet.

The first stage of the competition was made up of three groups of four games and after coming through that undefeated, Pennington progressed to the semi-finals (made up of the three group winners and the best runner-up) where they came out on top against fellow South Cumbria side Milnthorpe.

Holy Family also made it into the last four, they were unfortunately edged out by Stanwix, while Black Combe weren't able to make it that far.

The final itself proved to be an absolute thriller with Pennington just about defending their total in a contest that went down to the final delivery.

In the end, Pennington ran out winners by two runs to allow them to lift the trophy.
