Former Barrow Island forward Morgan Knowles scored the opening try in Super League leaders St Helens’ 42-10 thumping of third-placed Hull FC last Friday night.

Knowles crashed over after six minutes at the KCOM Stadium when he was set up by Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook’s pass and Saints went on to dominate, scoring further tries in the first half through Theo Fages and Lachlan Coote.

Scores from Regan Grace, Jack Ashworth, Jonny Lomax and a second from Coote opened up a 40-0 lead for the visitors before Hull finally got on the board through tries from Jamie Shaul and Ratu Naulago.

St Helens head coach Justin Holbrook said: “It’s a tough place to come and play, with a hostile crowd, so to come away with a good win like that, I’m really happy. It was a really good performance from us. There are areas for improvement for sure but it was a dominant win.”

Former Raider Joe Bullock was an interchange as Wigan Warriors thrashed Hull Kingston Rovers at the other Craven Park, in a match where Liam Marshall scored three of the visitors’ nine tries. Barrovian Ryan Shaw started for Hull KR and converted one of Adam Quinlan’s two scores.

Brad Singleton played off the bench as Leeds Rhinos withstood a late fightback to win 18-10 at Castleford Tigers and lift themselves two points clear of the bottom of the table.

James Clare scored twice for Tigers after Trent Merrin and Jack Walker had put Leeds 12-0 ahead before they finally sealed victory through Robert Lui’s try in the closing stages.

Urswick’s Greg Richards played in London Broncos’ 36-6 home defeat against Warrington Wolves that plunged them to the bottom of the league.
