We have now reached the halfway stage of the John Sharples (Letting Agents) sponsored Furness and District Bowling League season

All the talk at the start of the season was of a close three-way battle at the top of Division One and so it is proving to be. Police, Lindal and King Alfred have all put in an impressive run of results and the second half of the campaign could well be worthy of Sky Sports coverage.

The Police reptiles (as they have affectionately become known) sit top after another great home win against King Alfred A, 13-1. Andy Thornton made a return to the team and was unstoppable in his 21-8 win with Matty Clegg, Graham Wood and Liam Howard all following him up with 21-10 victories.

Lindal sit three points behind at the moment having managed an 11-3 home win versus Post Office. Trevor McPake had the best win of the match (21-9) with Darren Naylor and Alf Moore weighing in with 21-11 wins.

King Alfred will have been delighted with their 12-2 win against Hawcoat Park, a team always capable of tripping you up. However, in a great team performance, Tony Whitehouse, Martin Barrow and Ben Wright all had fantastic single-figure wins.

Askam continue to impress and are a threat to any team, showing great away form to defeat Salthouse 9-6. Top man Ian Clough is having a great season and continued with a 21-9 win this week, while the youngsters of the team, Gareth Knowles and Fraser Rigg, also picked up good wins.

Glaxo are finding things a little tough of late, having started the season strongly. Last week, they suffered a heavy 11-4 home defeat at the hands of Walney Park. Mark Lamb and Colin White winning 21-8 and 21-9, respectively.

Bottom team Hawcoat Park A had their best result of the season, beating Red River 10-4 in a game which saw both teams secure two 21-20 wins. No such drama for Jo Knight, though, who played brilliantly to win 21-6 for Hawcoat.

Co-op entertained Dalton CC and found conditions to their liking with a comfortable 11-3 win. It was a case of Ryder’s on the storm as Matthew, Martin and Dave all won to single figures, with Dave Pedley following suit. The Cricketers’ best winner was Chris Johnson who has returned to the game in fine form after a prolonged absence, something everyone is happy to see.
