It is Division Three’s turn to take centre stage in the Furness and District Bowling League sponsored by John Sharples (Letting Agents) and early season pacesetters Lindal A don’t look like stopping anytime soon as we get near the half way point.

Their home green is a huge advantage and last week they whitewashed Salthouse B 14-0, conceding just 92 points in the process as eight of the games ended up in single-figure victories, with Keith Johnson (21-1), Daniel Thompson (21-3) and Paul Rooney (21-2) being the pick of them.

Red River A are having a terrific season after looking likely to be dropping out due to lack of players at the start of the season and this week they again showed they are an improving team as they visited West Shore A and produced a brilliant 11-4 win.

Callum Sharples continued his unbeaten season with an excellent 21-8 win at the top of the sheet, a score matched by Tony Pitts with John Brady weighing in with a 21-9 win as well. Pat Fogharty was the man in form for the Shore.

North Scale could well be the biggest challengers to Lindal’s dominance, especially if they can get their green running quick.

Last week, they kept in touch with a comfortable 11-3 win when they entertained Co-op B. Jack Mitchell and Keith Hurley were both in awesome form, winning 21-4, with Tom Gauntlett and Peter O’Connor having good single-figure victories of their own. For the Co-op, George Ackred took the sweep, winning 21-9.

West Mount A are still outperforming their first team, although both were involved in tight games this week.

The A team visited Barrow Island and the game literally could not have been closer with the games level at 6-6 and the aggregate deadlocked at 212-212.

However, as the away team, the Mount took the game 8-7. Merit leader Steve Holmes was their best winner (21-7) with Barry Crawford replying for the Island (21-5).

The first team’s game with Hawcoat Park C also went right to the wire. Hawcoat took the games 7-5 but due to good single-figure wins from Barry Morrow (21-8) and Seymour Benson (21-7), they took the aggregate by a single point and so tied the game 7-7. Eddie France had a great win for Hawcoat 21-7.

Walney Park B were defeated at home to Roose B 10-5. Mike Gasson (21-4), Chris Burton (21-6), Rob Chissim (21-7) and Andy Crabtree (21-8) all won well for Roose whilst Alan Stark was best for the Walney Park A team, along with Billy Dodding.
