Barrow Island under-16s picked up their third league win of the season, as they impressively won 36-28 at third placed Westhoughton Lions last Sunday.

The result moved Island up to fourth in Division Two the North West Counties Youth League and above local rivals Ulverston.

They’ll be confident about backing their victory up this weekend, as they’ll be welcoming bottom-of-the-pile Portico Vine to Rating Lane.

Walney Central’s match at league leaders Widnes Moorfield was unfortunately cancelled due to the visitors not being able to raise a team and having to forfeit the result.

At under-15 level, Askam moved up to fourth in Division Two as they drew 16-16 at home to third-placed Langworthy Reds, who remain two points ahead of them in the table.

In the Barrow & District Youth League, Hindpool Tigers under-14s moved to the top after a 50-0 thrashing of Dalton at Kelland Park.

Jack Osman, Harley Bradley Allan and Mitchell McKenzie each scored two tries, while the Tigers’ other scorers were Kieran Dougan, Luke Buchanan and Ryan Kyte, who also kicked seven goals in what was another big win for the visitors.

In the under-12s, Dalton were impressive 40-0 winners over Ulverston, while Roose Pioneers defeated Hindpool Tigers 36-14.

League leaders Askam were in action in the Cumbria Youth Cup and they defeated Seaton Rangers 24-18 at Fallowfield Park to progress.

In the League Cup, Walney Central breezed past Ulverston 40-4 last Thursday evening.
