Leigh East proved too strong for Millom last Saturday, as the visitors survived 55 minutes with 12 men to run out easy 30-10 winners to condemn Millom to another league defeat, writes Elliot Burrow.

Leigh opened the scoring with barely two minutes gone when Zac Nicholls benefitted off a Millom knock-on to score out wide. Jordan.

They were in again three minutes later when Adam Wilkes took advantage off some poor defence which allowed him to stroll over under the sticks. This time Jordan Hellam converted and his side led 10-0 with only five minutes on the clock.

Millom battled hard to try and get back into the game, but they just couldn’t find a way through before the visitors scored again when Brad Gallagher found his way through the Woolybacks’ defence to score under the posts, Hellam converting again.

On 27 minutes, Leigh East were reduced to 12-men when Luke Belshaw was shown a straight red card for a suspected head-butt.

From the resulting penalty, Millom scored when Adam Kelly produced a pinpoint kick to the corner for Hadley Thompson to catch and touch down. Adam Kelly converted and put his side within ten points.

However, Hellam then kicked a penalty goal to put the visitors 18-6 in front at half-time and he was successful with the boot again early in the second half.

Millom needed to respond quickly and they did exactly that when Niall Harris managed to catch another superb kick to score in the corner. Kelly this time couldn’t convert and Millom trailed by ten with 12 minutes to play.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for the Woolybacks as Leigh East ran in a further two tries through Louis Else and Andrew Ball.
