Martin Gilpin from Victoria Bowling Club Kendal defeated Dalton CC's Gareth Jones in the final of the fifth annual Glaxo County Cup at Glaxo SK Bowling Club earlier in the month.

The singles competition, sponsored by Windermere Lake Cruises, saw 48 players competing, with the winner qualifying for the Grand Masters.

Ultimately, Gilpin gave a bowling masterclass in the final against a very worthy opponent in Jones, who he eventually defeated 21-8

On his route to the final, Gilpin beat, Ian France (Snr), Danny Edmonds, Mark Curwen, Billy Thornton before getting past Bob Parkinson in the semi-finals.

Jones first saw off Kev Toal before running up victories against Dave Jackson, Paul Lewis, and finally Paul Kissock in the last four.

The prizes were presented by Mr John Woodburn, operations director at Windermere Lakes Cruises, who besides generously sponsoring the competition also donated a Family Cruise Voucher.

The Glaxo Committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped out in the preparation of the green, marking the scorecards and measuring, and last but not least Avril and Carrie Viney and Joanne Brannon.

The committee would also once again like to extend their appreciation to the Management of Windermere Lake Cruises for their generous sponsorship, without which the competition could not have taken place.
