Hindpool Tigers under-14s remained level on points with league leaders Roose Pioneers in the Barrow & District Youth League with a comfortable 42-6 victory at home to Askam last Sunday.

The young Tigers scored eight tries in total in what was their fourth win from five league games and they controlled proceedings from the off at Brisbane Park, although Askam to their credit never threw in the towel.

Askam kicked off, only for Hindpool to run it straight back and good forward running from Ethan Buchanan and Mitchell McKenzie set play up to spread wide to Jack Osman to sidestep and score, converted by Ryan Kyte.

From the restart, Hindpool showed great teamwork to get back up to Askam’s ten metre line and on the last tackle, Kyte put a neat chip over to follow up n collect to score himself before converting his try.

Some messy play then allowed Askam to kick through, with Isaac Barber diving on the ball to score under the sticks and Lewis stables converting.

Askam then had a good spell before Hindpool get the ball back and take play back up field for Lennon Hartle to drop the ball over the line, although pressure led to good link up play out wide for Kieran Dougan to dive over for another try.

Askam then conceded a penalty from 30 metres out, with the quick-thinking Kyte tapping the ball and running through to score under the sticks and converting.

Hindpool went on to control the second half with great link up play leading to Harley Bradley-Allan scoring, Kyte converting, before great forward running led to Osman running in for his second try of the day.

There was then a first under-14s try for Alex Allen and and great morning’s work was then rounded off by a great 80-metre break from Luke Buchanan, which led to Ethan Dodding scoring in the corner with Kyte getting the touchline conversion.
