Opener Marc Gibson produced an outstanding innings in Dalton 2nd XI’s 64-run victory against Ulverston 2nd XI in Division Two of the Cumbria Cricket League.

Asked to bat, Dalton made 202-4 from their 40 overs, as opener Gibson batted throughout their innings to finish on 98 not out, while Matthew Bamber was also unbeaten on 30.

Ulverston made a promising start, with Ajish Kumpukkal making 33, but the middle and lower order only added 22 between them and the home side were 138-9 when overs ran out. Dalton’s Keith Gilliland returned 4-20 in his 10 overs.

Ben High took five wickets, as Millom 2nd XI defeated local rivals Haverigg 2nd XI by 65 runs after defending 123 all out.

Millom’s Dominic Heasley, batting at nine, top-scored with 28 for Millom, as Haverigg’s Georgia Holmes took 4-23 and Sam Huddleston 3-23.

The visitors then had one of those days with the bat, as they were skittled for 56, with High taking 5-9 and Richard Ivison 3-6.

Despite 60 off 91 balls from opener Ian Allington, Barrow 2nd XI fell to a five-wicket defeat against Cleator 2nd XI.

After being put in to bat, Barrow were bowled out for just 109, with Aman Kshetrapal (11 not out) the only other batsman to reach double figures.

David Bell took 3-19 and Alan Wishart 3-21 to put Cleator in control and the visitors had clinched victory by the 37th over, as skipper Steven Lee anchored his side’s reply with 32.

In the Northern Premier League, Barrow’s first team had their match ruined by the weather, as their contest at Chorley was abandoned.

Just 8.3 overs were possible before the rain set in, with the hosts on 14-0 at the time.
