Hindpool Tigers won the local bragging rights with a 42-22 victory in their North West Men’s League Trophy first round tie with Barrow rivals Roose Pioneers at Holbeck Park last Saturday, writes Paddy McAteer.

Tries for the Brisbane Park side came from Connor McDermott (2), Nathan Sneesby (2), Ben Hughes, Paul Rickleton and Josh Archer with Connor Goodings also touching down along with slotting over five goals.

For the home side, who had a fine win at high-flying Wigan Spring View in Division Three the previous week, tries came via Jack Torkington, Sam Doyle, Mike Backhouse and Sayle, with Euan James kicking two goals and Backhouse one.

The Tigers now have a home quarter-final tie against Culcheth Eagles to look forward to on June 29.

Ulverston were awarded their North West Men’s League Cup tie against Folly Lane after their opponents couldn’t raise a team.

Barrow Island saw off the challenge of St Judes 32-6 going joint second with the Wigan side in Division Two of the National Conference League in the process.

Island were soon into their stride, going 16 points up in as many minutes with tries from Ian Irvine, Ryan Clegg and Adam Jackson. who added two conversions.

The second half saw Jackson cross for his second with Matt Parkinson also touching down and Jackson adding four goals.

A young Millom side crashed to an unexpected 30-4 defeat at bottom-placed Salford City Roosters in Division Three.

Dylan Sykes crossed for a first-half try - a half which saw Salford lead 14-4 - but this was the only time the Woolybacks registered over the course of a disappointing afternoon.
