Two Black Combe Runners took on the new Helvellyn and the Dodds fell race from Threlkeld, near Keswick, recently.

Harvey Lord had a great race over the very demanding course to get back in a very creditable 2:35.52 for an 11th place overall finish. Matthew Allen was 23rd overall, clocking 2:50.08.

The winners were Brennan Townshend (Keswick AC) and Sophie Noon (CFR) in 2:07.58 and 2:51.36, respectively.

BCR’s Steve Wathall got round the Austwick Amble hill race in 68:49, an event won by Tim Stratton (City of York AC) in 48:41 and Helen Thornhill (Ribble Valley Harriers), clocking 56:21.

At the Isle of Jura fell race, four BCRs ventured across to the Western Isles of Scotland to take on the 17.4-mile, 7,775ft ascent course. Tim Ripper just edged out clubmate Josh Hartley by 24 seconds in clocking 3:58.19.

Peter Tayler got round in a creditable 5:14.24, but William Ross was disqualified for missing checkpoints 5-7. Tim Morgan (Edinburgh University) won the race in 3:20.27, while Jill Stephens (Hunter’s Bog Trotters) strode to victory for the ladies in 4:06.22.

Last Thursday, two BCRs headed to the Yorkshire Dales to take on the Ingleton Waterfalls fell race. Chris Roberts got round the course in 47:02, whilst Andrew Gittins clocked 52:49. James Warburton (Knaresbrough AC) won the event in 30:52, with Jacqueline Collins (Barlick Fell Runners) the fastest lady back in 37:45.
