The motorcycle rally season is in full swing and members of the local Motorcycle Action Group and many other enthusiasts have been attending rallies all over the north and elsewhere the last few months.

Entries are now being taken for one of the biggest, if not the biggest events of its kind, The Farmyard Party in Duncome Park at Hemsley near York which runs from June 21-23.

This year the rally boasts entertainment from 30-odd live bands in the big top, with the annual comedy show along with all the usual rally fun and games.

The site boasts clean washrooms and showers etc with catering laid on. Trailer tents are permitted on site too.

It`s always a sell out, so if you are thinking of going you`d be well advised to contact the organisers now to secure your pitch. They can be contacted via their website www.farmyardparty.com or phone them on 0800 988 3199.

If you pre book now, a full weekend will cost you £37 but if you decide to pay on the gate it will be £50.

If you just wish to attend Saturday the charge is reduced to £2,5 but numbers are limited. Gates open at 9am on all days…Have fun!

The following month, of course, is the ‘big one, in Furness: The annual Dead End Rally, which is organised by the local Motorcycle Action Group at the Dalton United football ground in Beckside Road, Dalton from July 12-14.

It too boasts indoor washrooms and showers for visiting motorcyclists. Entertainment will be provided with live music and disco both nights and along with the usual charity raffle, but sorry guys, leave your barbies at home, no BBQ`s at this one.

Numbers are limited to 200 and I hear spaces are already filling up fast for this one too.

Tickets are a mere£15. For full info go to the MAG Facebook page, email them at deadendrally@gmail.com or call them on 07583001181 to secure your place. It`s a great weekend. and all profits go to the MAG fighting fund .

If you can`t make any of these, you can always pencil in the Iron Ore Rally further up the coast at Egremont on August 3, 4 and 5.

The venue is the Egremont Rugby Union Club’s ground. It`s always another good one worth attending with all the usual fun and games, ride outs and live music etc. I don`t have full details yet of who the live bands are but will post nearer the time.

No pre-booking for this one required, just £15 on the gate on a first come first served basis.

*The Manx Gremlins certainly took a shine to the Furness contingent at the Pre-TT Classic races on the 4.25 Southern 100 circuit near Castletown last weekend.

Alistair Howarth from Silecroft was first to attract their attention.

His usually reliable Yamahas gear linkage fractured in the early stages of the lightweight race.

Manxman Mikey Evans, who Barrow businessman Graham Wilcock had provided some top class machines for the TT, got caught out by a damp patch and crashed heavily.

Ulverston’s Nick Penny`s GMS Special, however, held the Furness flag high. It again proved reliable, gaining Nick another finishers’ medal to add to his collection.

The gremlins then turned on me… Thanks to jumping out of the way of an out-of-control car, I`m now sporting a fractured wrist!

*Having lost the use of their track near Brampton, the East Cumbria Motocross Club ran the first rounds of their 2019 championships on the Route 44 track at Haverigg recently.

Veteran Paul Coward from Kirkby-in-Furness proved he`s lost none of his skills as he finished second in the veterans’ class on his KTM. Askam’s Gavin Southward wasn’t too far behind in third place.

In the Auto 65 class, Askam’s Finley Pickering showed the rest the way round by winning the class overall.

On Sunday, Barrow’s Callum Bircher got his share of the silverware too.

After a third place in the A class the previous day, he went one better with a second.

*If you’ve not yet had your fill of the last two weeks’ TT coverage on ITV 4, there`s even more in the next few days.

Presenter Matt Roberts, with former winners Steve Plater and Cameron Donald, will be continuing their excellent coverage with behind-the-scenes interviews with all the top riders and teams with race commentaries from Dave Moore.

Tonight at 9pm is The Senior TT, while tomorrow, also at 9pm, is the Sidecar Race Two.

On Wednesday they are screening a programme featuring a full review of the week’s racing.

The following evening, (Thursday, June 13) is part two of the TT Review. So, hide the remote from your good lady and grab a front seat. (Picture by Ellan Vannin)

*The next of the Bikers Breakfast gatherings takes place on Sunday at St Luke’s Church Hall in Torver from 9:30-11:30am.

Following a short service, a free good old English breakfast is provided for all visiting motorcyclists and their passengers. Although the meal is provided free of charge, donations to church funds would obviously be welcomed. For full details, contact Linda on 01539 441777 or Jim on 07436 116343.
