In last week’s Deltawaite Ltd Furness Senior Citizens’ League fixtures, bowlers were able to enjoy ideal weather conditions, with the top seven teams in Division One all making the most of them.

Hawcoat Park were 10-1 winners at Askam, for whom Richard Wearing prevented the whitewash by the narrowest of margins with a 21-20 win. The leaders' single-figure wins came from David Hird (21-6) and Bill McLaughlin (21-8).

Second-placed Co-op faced their second team and won 9-2. Ian Hall (21-3) and Dave Dawes were in rampant form, whilst the A team's points came from Dave Harwood and Rodger Wood.

West Shore were 8-2 winners at home to Dalton CC. the pick of their wins coming from Dave Mellen (21-9) with Danny Smith and Keith Banks successful for the Cricket Club.

Lindal had an 8-3 away win at Roose with Ronnie Barclay and Kevin Rooney (21-3 and 21-8, respectively).

Following their 8-2 defeat Kirkby, Walney Park find themselves in the bottom two. The Village side were best served by Andy Waring (21-7) and Jerry Lee, with John Whittall and Ian Fairclough Walney’s points winners.

The win that brought the biggest reward was Ulverston Cons' 8-2 defeat of Barrow Island, which saw them move up three places away form the drop zone.

Their main winners were Rae Postlethwaite (21-6) and Tony Fell whilst Dave Leece and Terry Marshal were the Island’s winners.

It was no better for Barrow Island's A team as the bottom side lost 8-3 to King Alfred at Cavendish Park. Their winners being John Heads, Brian Linklater and Peter Minnis with Jeff Hindes' 21-2 the stand out result for the Alfred, who had four single-figure winners.

The remaining game saw Hawcoat Park A and Salthouse shared the games with the former claiming the aggregate by four chalks to win 6-4. The leading wins were John Gill’s 21-8 win for the Club side with Salthouse’s Bill Thompson responding with a 21-9 win of his own.

In Division Two, West Mount had a clean sweep of wins in beating Walney Park B 10-0 to move into second place.

Leaders Glaxo shared the games with visiting West Shore A, but took the aggregate points to win 6-4. It was a club double for West Mount as their A team won 8-3 at Salthouse A.

In the all-Walney affair, the honours went to Walney Park A as they beat North Scale 8-2.

The closest game saw Dalton CC A claim a 6-5 win over Hawcoat Park C, with the sides finishing level on chalks. The remaining game saw Hawcoat Park B beat Roose A 7-3 with John Lavender’s 21-7 the best score.
