A YOUNG biking star is the latest to receive financial backing from a charity as she heads off to the BMX European Championships in Latvia, and the World Championships in Belgium, both in July.

Nine-year-old Emie Seward was one of a number of people awarded a grant by Millom charity A Skye Full of Stars, which will help cover her expenses for a summer trip to mainland Europe.

The charity was set up in honour of model 18-year-old Skye Mitchell, who tragically died in a car crash in 2017.

Skye Mitchell’s mother Sharon Fry said: “It’s important for children to follow their dreams and enjoy what they’re doing.

“We’re always here for children to apply to our programme.”

The charity also awarded grants to Dylan Sykes, who has been snapped up to play for Scotland Rugby League, as well as grants for seven children selected for the Cumbria County Cricket team.
