Just eight points separates the top six in Division Two of the Allan Myerscough (Ford) Ulverston and District Bowling League as we hit the quarter point of the season.

Kirkby find themselves at the top of the tree after an excellent 11-3 victory at home to Barrow Island. John Battersby was the star man with his 21-4 win with Don Marshall and Malcolm Cleasby backing him up with single figure wins of their own.

The youngsters of Lindal A find themselves in second place after turning over Hawcoat Park A 10-4 at home. Top man Callum Sharples remains unbeaten after another comfortable win although Alex Spelman lived up to his name, bowling like a magician in his 21-2 victory.

Its always nice to win on Lindal as an away player, so Anthony Woods will be delighted to have been his team's best winner, 21-14.

The ‘Battle of the Wests’ took place just off Abbey Road as West Mount hosted West Shore in what turned out to be a ridiculously close game.

The games ended at six apiece and with just three points in the aggregate to the away side, the Walney outfit took the game 9-6.

They had Geoff Batte’s 21-2 win to thank for this along with merit leader Steve Hunter, who has had just 47 points scored against him in his first seven games this season.

Another fixture to see the games shared was Askam A v Dalton CC A. However, the home side took the aggregate and the game 8-6 comfortably, with Graham Casson’s 21-4 setting them on their way and Bill Coates and Shaun Fisher weighing in with good wins of their own.

For the Cricketers, Robin Griffiths (21-11) found the green to his liking and Mark Iveson continued to show his improvement, winning 21-13.

At Glaxo, the A team entertained Roose A and kept up their push for promotion by winning 9-5. Aided by a walkover which sealed the aggregate points, they also had great wins from Dennis Kavanagh (21-9) and John Crank (21-11).

Kings Head made the long trip to Walney Park A and performed admirably on a tricky green in their 9-5 defeat. Top man Lee Smith was in fine form for the Park winning 21-9 although he was outshone by Matt McKellar’s 21-4 victory. For the Head, Harry and Tommy Tomsett won 21-7 and 21-11, respectively.
