Three teams went into the final day of the South Lakes Girls League under-12 League Championship with a chance of lifting the league title.

Dalton looked out of the picture just two weeks ago but overhauled previous leaders Morecambe by defeating Barrow Celtic last Friday 1-0 before comfortably beating Wattsfield 4-1 on their travels two days later.

In the meantime, Morecambe lost 3-0 at Lancaster Giants before being held to a 2-2 draw by Ulverston Rangers, who are the other team still in contention.

At the time of going to press, two points separated the three teams, with the match between Morecambe and Dalton looking destined to decide the title.

In the under-12 League Cup, there were emphatic victories for Barrow Celtic’s and Dalton’s under-11 sides, as they thrashed Grange United and Wattsfield United 5-0 and 7-2, respectively.

The Barrow & District Junior Football League season drew to a close this week, with under-12 champions Furness Cavaliers rounding off their successful season with a 4-2 defeat at Ulverston, while in the same division, Millom ran out 5-2 winners against Crooklands Casuals.

At under-14 level, runners-up Holker Old Boys Red finished off their campaign with a 4-0 victory against Hawcoat Park under-13s.
