Despite the cold, damp weather, there was an excellent turnout for the first-ever Walney Park Ladies’ Doubles tournament, which was held last Friday.

After a day of entertaining competition, the eventual winners were Glenis McDonald and Gillian Corran, who defeated Thelma McBratney and Marian Woods 21-14 in a closely-fought final.

The two teams overcame the doubles pairings of Maureen Ratcliffe and Ann France and Gladys Johnson and Jean Turner, respectively, to secure their places in the final.

The organisers, Walney Park Ladies Bowling Team, would like to thank all those who took part and helped on the day. They would also like to extend a special thank you to The Robin Hood pub for sponsoring the event.

In the latest round of the Furness and District Women’s Bowling League, there was a very close game at King Alfred as their A team played Askam.

King Alfred won six games but thanks to good single figure wins from Kath Milburn and Sandra Rigg, Askam took the the aggregate and the match finished 6-6.

Dalton had a good win at Biggar Bank, as they won six games, with Linda Keen and Brenda Birkbeck showing excellent form, to give their team an 8-4 aggregate points.

Ulverston Cons whitewashed Walney Park 12-0, while Co-op saw off Hawcoat Park 7-4 and there was an 8-3 victory for Roose against North Scale.
