Division Two in the Furness and District Women’s Bowling League started this week and both Roose A and Red River began with a 9-2 home victories against Abbey and Red River respectively.

Red River’s new starter Hannah Burton did well by winning 21 14, while Sheilah Hackett and Pat Heron both won to 13 helping Hawcoat Park A to a 7-5 victory away to Co-op A.

Barrow Island were involved in one of the division’s closest match of the opening round, as they edged past West Mount 6-5, while Park Shore snuck past Dalton CC by the same scoreline.

In Division One, King Alfred were absolutely dominant, as they won every game at home to Roose, with Maureen Mills and Margaret Walton both having excellent wins of 21-2 in their team’s 11-0 victory.

Alfred A found it tougher, however, as they were defeated 10-1 by defending champions Ulverston Cons, who have only dropped two games from their opening two fixtures, while Askam also made it two wins out of two, as they saw off Co-up 7-4

North Scale and Biggar Bank had a very close match, with four of the games going right to the wire in being won 21-20. North Scale won six games but Biggar bank took the aggregate and they finished locked at 6-6.

In the other match in the top division, Hawcoat Park ran out 7-4 winners against Walney Park in what was their first fixture of the campaign.
