Two of Leven Valley AC’s junior runners took part in the London Mini Marathon last Sunday, with both Jess Bailey and Olesia Winder producing impressive runs in the capital.

The duo were taking on some of the best runners this country has to offer in their respective age groups, with Bailey taking part in the girls’ under-13 category and Winder in the under-15s.

The three-mile race, which stretches from London’s Old Billingsgate to The Mall, also doubled up as the British Athletics Road Championships.

The Mini Marathon has been previously won by four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Mo Farah, who came fifth in the elite men’s race.

Representing the North West, Bailey, who frequently finishes ahead of the adults when taking part in the Barrow Parkrun, produced an absolutely brilliant race as she came third out of a field of 64 in a time of 17 minutes 31 seconds.

She finished 16 seconds behind under-13 winner Ruby Vinton, who was running for the East, while the South East’s Isabelle Martin came second after clocking 17:20.

It was the latest stunning performance from Bailey, who has also represented Cumbria at cross country this year.

In the under-15s, Winder, a superb cross country runner herself, who has competed in English Schools events before, crossed the line 48th with a good time of 18:31.

The race was won by the South West’s Beatrice Wood, who clocked 16:35, five seconds quicker than Holly Weedall, Winder’s North West teammate, while Scotland’s Anna Hedley crossed the line third in 16:56.
