Cumbria Cricket League teams were involved in the first round of the Sowerby Cup last weekend, with Haverigg producing a very impressive performance, as they hammed Hawcoat Park by eight wickets.

Having been put in to bat in windy conditions, Hawcoat were reduced to 29-3 before Adam Hunter struck his first ever century, with his superb 102 including nine fours and six sixes.

Dave Thorburn also made 32 as the hosts were bowled out for 210 in the 36th over, with Haverigg pro Lahiru Jayakody returning 3-16 while skipper Drew Postlethwaite took his keeper's gloves off to remove the tail with 3-19.

In reply, Haverigg went on the attack, as Postlethwaite (63) and Dale Graham (25) opened with a stand of 71.

Joe Harvey then made an explosive 77 not out, including 11 fours and two sixes, in an unbroken stand of 110 with Jayakody unbeaten on 35, as the villagers won in the 35th over.

Holders Furness 2nd XI went through thanks to a 28-run victory over Ulverston at Priory Road, in a match that was reduced to 35 overs a side.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Furness were made to work had in posting 139-9, as Ulverston’s Paul Storey, Jack Dryden, and Oliver Carr took three wickets each.

In reply, the hosts were reduced to 49-5 and despite 32 from Thomas James, were 111-8 when their overs ran out.

Kirkby were defeated by eight wickets by Cockermouth 2nd XI in what was another rain-affected game. The visitors made a decent start to reach 64-2, with Mike Fugler making 34 and Mike Etchells 30, but struggled from then on to post just 125-7.

Overs lost to the weather gave Cockermouth a target of 106 in 36 overs and opener Ian Buchanan's unbeaten 51 saw his side win with nine overs to spare.

Lindal Moor crashed to a 114-run defeat at Workington 2nd XI on Sunday after being skittled for just 74 (Tom Fox taking 4-6) in reply to the home side's 188-7.

In the Vigodny Cup Ulverston 2nd XI progressed after defeating Barrow 2nd XI by 56 runs last Sunday.

Ulverston's opening pair made a stand of 90, with Andrew James making 42 and Nigel Atkinson 38 before the hosts collapsed to 161 all out, as Barrow’s Dan Adams took 6-28.

However, Barrow lost wickets regularly in reply, with only Rashid Ahmad’s 45 providing any resistance as the visitors were all out for 105 in the 31st over, Hussain Ali (3-18) and Vivek Gogia (3-21) doing the damage for Ulverston.

Dalton 2nd XI comfortably defeated Millom 2nd XI by eight wickets. The visitors were bowled out for just 109, as Jack Singleton returned figures of 4-6 off five overs, before Dalton chased down their target in 27 overs, thanks to 42 from Matthew Jones.

Elsewhere, Cleator 2nd XI ran out eight-wicket winners over Egremont 2nd XI.
