The arms race at the top of the under-14 division of the Barrow & District Junior Football League continued as both Vickerstown and Holker Old Boys Red maintained their relentless pace.

Vickerstown continue to set the tone after they thrashed Crooklands Casuals under-13s 7-1 on Tuesday, while the Reds were forced to be a little more workmanlike as they defeated Furness Rovers 2-0.

That maintained the six-point gap between the two, with Holker having two games in hand, ahead of Saturday’s crunch match at Park Vale. Another notable result in that age group saw Crooklands under-13s hammer Millom 10-3 on their own patch last Saturday.

In the under-12s, Furness Cavaliers opened up a three-point lead at the top, ahead of Ulverston Rangers, with a 12-0 dismissal of Barrow Celtic, the biggest win at any level over the last week.

Swarthmoor’s title hopes took a nosedive when they were defeated 4-3 at home by Dalton Juniors last Saturday, although they did bounce back with a 4-2 away victory at Millom Juniors.

Elsewhere in that age group, Dalton drew 2-2 at Crooklands Casuals under-11s Oranges, while Walney Island comfortably defeated Holker Old Boys 6-2.

There was just one fixture in the under-16 league, as Holker Old Boys under-15s Greens ran out 5-2 winners over their under-16 clubmates.

It was also a big week of cup action, with semi-finals in both the BDJFL Knockout Cup and Furness District FA Cup taking place.

In the under-12 BDJFL competition, Millom stormed into the final by defeating Crooklands Casuals 5-1 last Saturday and will meet the winners of the Casuals under-11s and Hawcoat Park, who face off next Monday.

Furness Cavaliers under-13s saw off Furness Rovers 4-2 in the under-14 competition and have the difficult task of facing Vickerstown on Sunday, May 5.

In the under-16s, Holker Old Boys under-15 Greens impressively defeated Walney Island under-15s, with Hawcoat Park and Swarthmoor Colts playing off next Tuesday for the other final place.

The one District FA Cup tie saw Furness Cavaliers under-16s defeat Swarthmoor 4-1.
